Fuel mileage, just calculated, help!

So I filled it up today for the second time. I used 23.7 gallons of fuel and drove a distance of 304.1 miles. That's 12.8 MPG So what is up with that, I put a new air cleaner on it half way through the tank and changed the fluids about that time too. Is there something I can clean or check to help with fuel consumption. I am semi ginger on the gas pedal and I am not flooring it wherever I go so what gives?

Welcome to my world!! Of course misery loves company, but maybe I can help LOL. Have you lost any boost? Check your up pipes for obvious signs of soot from leaks. Also assuming that you are hand calculating, not using the lie-o-meter (but that usually gives a higher reading) Is the turbo still spinning freely? I've also heard that a clogged EBP sensor / tube can kill mileage too.

No boost gauge and no boost leak as far as I know, i can really get the truck up and can really here the turbo with the 6637 on it. Yes I still have the 87 F-150, its going to need a new engine soon as this one is knocking.

Yes this is and hand calculated, no lie-o-meter in this truck! I will look for soot on the up pipes tomorrow when I vac out the inside. I will have to clean the EBP sensor, is that in guzzel's site?

Ya the 87 was a good truck until it started to go, that's when I went and started to look for a newer truck. After about 4 months of looking and not finding anything that was in good shape I finally found the truck I have now and man is it great except for the fuel mileage, wow!

I would make sure all the rubber boots around the turbo arent leaking too. I make it a habit to check mine every oil change.

I just get a 5/16 socket/screwdriver deal, and i tighten them. You can feel by hand if they are loose or not. Usually you can see if they are leaking by it being more dirty there.

Have you also checked your fuel filter lately? Suprisingly enough of you got a poor batch of diesel that can really affect your mileage.

I've never seen one under the truck, just the fuel pump by the drivers side frame rail. Unless someone else put it there.
