Excide makes/supplys most chain stores like oreilys, kragen, checker, shucks, murray walmart, autozone, etc. There are only 2 suppliers of batterys in the world, so im told by the excide guy. So most of the battiers are mainly excide or the other brand(dont remember name) just priced different with that brands sticker.

I could see that but as there are not other batteries that look like Optima's who makes them?
Been looking and calling around. Lowest are $139 for Red Top Optima's, $100 for Motorcraft (850CCA). SO, I can save $80 by going Motorcraft, but would have to find another way of installing the Battery Minder (charger) and running a long cable to the Batteries.
Does anyone know who makes the batteries for Wallyworld or OhRyeLees or the other big store brand?
Dave..
I installed Sears Diehard(2) for about $100 each
they are gray in color and the right size for our diesels, they have 1 model better for a bit more $$ (Sears keeps your name in their computer system!! easier to deal with if you travel a lot.
Otherwise, Go with INTERSTATE, they are always a good choice
I can maybe hook you up with a set from two different friends that sell them

Optima AFAIK. They also make the same gell-cell batts for OEM's. I know their are some late-model mopars w/these... Patented technology??
I forgot to mention earlier about the short life of Optimas. I've used the wallyworld yellow batteries for years and NO COMPLAINTS. You take'em inside and the girls at customer service tell you to go back and get new ones. It is a 5 or 6 year warranty, but 1rst 3yrs are FREE replacement. So pro-ration (is that a word?) begins at 3 yrs. So at 4 yrs, ya just pay a little for new batts, not full price until END of warranty.
Listen, I hate the place and rarely go there, but this is an item that is worth the headache of the place. Nationwide and no questions asked. I had an autozone batt die under 'free replacement' period awhile back. After a few days of charging all nite and not starting after parking at work all day, I decided 'it was time'. No, they did not just 'give' me another battery - they wanted to put it on a charger and then test it (next day), before exchange. I explained the truck in parking lot would be difficult to DRIVE w/o a battery and that I had already done that (charging). My word that I had not left the lites on, jumped it off and drove down for a free battery was not enough. Pissed off, I bought another battery and let the ****** refund my money the next day. I know some of the other parts chains were doing the same thing - what a PITA...
Mine dies last winter (original MC's). I located a set of Interstates 1K amps for $80 a piece. Since both are made by Exide, I figured why not save the bucks.
Just got an email from Ford. Their Motorcraft batteries that sell regularly for 99.95 are now $20 off with free towing included in the warranty if you let them do the install. Of course a set of jumper cables is probably cheaper than their labor bill for the install.
I just picked up that new 12V nuclear Battery. Will last for 1500 years. But the warranty will only cover for the original truck. The Economy should start to pick up by then..
Dave..
BTW, I picked up the WallyWorld Maxx 65N, and I can't believe how fast the motor turns over now. Not a slow roll, hoping she'll catch. Spent half as much as If I pick up the Optima that I wanted. With what I saved, I can get a fillup of Diesel and a bottle or two of DK. Anyway, we'll see how they last over the next few years.
Now, gotta figure how to mount the Battery Minder so that it's out of the way and not too far from the batteries.
