Almost the whole underside of my 54 F-100 is rotted out. I need to replace both front cab corners (inner and outer), both rockers, the drivers side floor, and both front cab corners. Where should I start? I want to try to do most of this with the cab on the frame (I have very limited room to take it off). Also the gas tank filler hole is banged up and no one repops this, what can I do?
If it is "that" bad; I would start by getting some allthread and stabilizie the integrety of the cab dimensions. The sides front and back may already be out of dimension so you'll need to get specific dimensions between specific points and set the cab correct. Some pictures would be helpful.

Any suggestions on any of this?

Hi rods4life,
I have a similar project with a '53 F100. The first thing to do if you are leaving it on the frame is to support the cab on the frame with some wood blocking. I would start with the front cab corners. Go slow, you will find out that there is a lot of work involved in replacing them. I am not sure what you mean by inner front cab corners? Front cab corners are made up of the extended part of the rocker panel, the door hinge post and the front cab corner. I was able to take a cab corner from a doner cab (provided by FTE member raerjim) and replace the left front on mine. I have a few pictures in my gallery that might help.https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=28984 If I could go back in time I would choose a less rusty truck. Have you made a list yet of the patch panels that you will need? If not do it, use any catalogue that provides these parts. I would suggest Mid Fifty F100 parts you can down load it. Look at the price and then make an informed dicission. I think that the patch panels you need will cost over $400.00 How much welding have you done? This repair requires a lot of welding. Look into getting a less rusty cab.
I agree with Merten. I had the same experience with the cab on my '52 - pretty much the whole bottom of the cab was rotten. After looking at the cost of all the patch panels I was able to find a better cab for less than it would have cost me to repair the original.
How hard is it to find a replacement cab and what kind of dollars are we talking about? I have a 54 as well and I have some of the same type repairs to make to mine but maybe not as extensive as Al. I don't think I'm as concerned about replacing the front cab corners and such as I am about keeping the dimensions correct so that everything will bolt back up once it is done. That's the part of the job that makes me hesitant. I spend the money, spend the time, and it ain't right once it comes time to reassemble. So give me an idea of the cost to replace the whole cab. Might spend some $$ but be a quicker fix with less anxiety.
Just watch ebay or your local Craigslist, I see cabs and parts trucks come up all the time for a few hundred bucks. I think 53-55 cabs are the same. 56 cabs are different but I believe same dimensions and the fenders and hoods all interchange from 53-56 so it would work as well. Don't quote me on that but I believe its true.
