Well, I love the look of the 08's and I love the interior, but I dont like the drivetrain. I want to wait a year or so and find an 08 or newer with a blown engine. I want to buy a brand new 7.3, and trans and then get the rest of the parts from a donor truck ( 2000-2003). I want to put the 7.3 in the 08. Any thoughts? Stupid idea? Smart idea?
sounds awesome, but also sounds $$$$$$. The new look has really grown on me.
Well, I see it like this.... The 08's dont hold value so you can get one cheap, but if you want a new one its going to be 60k. If I could get the truck for about 10 then the swap parts would be about 10-25, so thats 20-25k for an 08 with no miles, and a better drive train than what ford can do. Not to mention the fact that if I do it right it would have value on the custom market
I've tried like hell to buy an '08 with no motor/tranny to no avail...
I think an '08 with a 12 valve and a BTS would be the cat's meow.
I think they are still to new. When the ****ty set up ford puts in them goes out most are still under warrenty so they get fixed. Give it a year or so and I bet you could find one..... Hell, one with an engine fire would be good because it would be cheap.

Don't expect to EVER get even close out of it what you put in it on a project like this. It's a great idea......but doubtful you'll find a truck under $30k I would guess, it's too soon

I know in general thats true, but with a complete drive train swap its different sometimes. I Have found several great shape 08's for way under 30k. I almost bought one. Power everything, diesel, 4wd, crew cab, every thing but leather. They wanted 26k, but the sales guy told me they'd take 24 with out me even asking, so I know I could have gotten it for 22. Like I said before, they dont hold value worth a crap.
Look over on the nation... Ive seen a thread Lott started where he removed the 6.4 and put a 5 speed manual and a 12v into a BRAND NEW 08 and was sending it overseas somewhere...
