Question Fuel delivery question....

Hey guys,

I have a 1986 B2, 2.9, auto. It was idling funny, so I changed the TPS and the FPR. Right after I changed the FPR, it ran like chit, and blew white smoke out the tailpipe.Smoked like I just Seafoamed it. It also smelled like it was dumping raw gas out the tailpipe. I checked the vacuum line to the FPR, and it was full of fuel. Figuring that the new one was faulty, I replaced it with the old FPR. Same prob. Fuel was shooting straight thru the FPR when I removed the vacuum line to it.
Is this telling me that I did not have either FPR seated correctly, thus allowing the fuel to flow straight thru?

I am at a bit of a loss. She is a very good truck. I don't want to have to sell her.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The diaphragm that separates the fuel from the vacuum should never let fuel through, and I don't think it has anything to do with installation. Have you put a pressure gauge on it? Does the fuel system hold pressure with either FPR? Could you possibly have something blocking the return flow so that it is building up too much pressure and rupturing the diaphragm?

Hey mrshorty,
fuel pressure is steady with either FPR. I hooked a long vacuum line to the back of the FPR and down along the inner fender well. Started it up and she ran great, but it ran a steady stream of fuel out the line. This is with either FPR. Is there anything I need to be looking for? It was relieving to hear it run so well, even tho the fuel was running out.

It ran well when I parked it last night after work, so this has me baffled...

That means both FPR's are bad. I'm not sure why the new one failed so quickly, but it needs another new FPR.
