Exhaust Brake?

Can I wire up an exhaust brake on my truck? If so will it do harm to my turbo? and can anyone give me pics on a how to? how affective is the brake? Thanks for any help

Yes you can, they are fairly easy. You have two options for exhaust brakes on your truck.

This first is a full blown-turbo mounted exhaust brake. Click here for more details, you can even download the instruction manual from here. The Turbo mount exhaust brake works off air pressure to regulate the back pressure and is recommended if you are towing more than 8000lbs.

The next, less expensive option is modifying the EBPV click here for more details, again you can download the install manual here as well. The modified EBPV works like and exhaust brake but It will not hold back as well as the full blown exhaust brake.

If your truck in an Automatic you will need to look at a transmission controller as well with the exhaust brake click here. The transmission controller is included with the EBPV modification kit.

Hope this helps

I put a fused wire on a switch and ran it to the EBPV. It worked GREAT. Only drawback is that it takes about 3 seconds to engage. It is an awesome addition to be able to use when towing and only costs a few cents to do.

Ditto, I've gotten spoiled by it. Well worth the time and pennies to do. BTW it's alot nicer w/a 5 spd than a auto

Excellent point, with the autos that do not hold T/C lock up a transmission controller is vital. The manual transmissions work great just as they are!

For an automatic we sell a Torque Loc transmission controller that will maintain torque convertor lock up which alone can help reduce speed. If using the EBPV valve or an exhaust brake to create engine braking a good transmission controller will be a big asset and can mimick a manual transmissions ability to hold back.

Question

I have mine done and works find, I have read that when you changes the exhaust from stock to 4" or 5", the exhaust break decreases his function,
I just change my exhaust to 4" and havent used with the exhaust brake, Have any of you experimented some different with new exhaust? but I think it doesnt matter.

We have not tested it because the largest brake casting we well is 4" putting a 4" brake on a 5" exhaust would obviously be going smaller. IMO the a 5" exhaust is over kill and is good for looks and sound only.

Neal how did you wire up the switch. I got an idea to wire the brake in with my TC lock up.

i wish it was simple to hook up an true jake break so that you could sound like a big truck pulling off the interstate or slowing your trailer down on a steep grade that would be awsome.

The T/C lock switches work well and I do not want to seem like I am taking away from that ease of making your own like you have done. The advantage we have built in to our Torque Loc is a feature that allows the T/C to disengage by speed, usually around 18-20 MPH.

I have member pricing available if you are interested drop me a PM or call
