Help! I have a 2005 F-150 STX and an aftermarket tach. How do I get a signal to drive the tach? The hookup to the coil on plug method that was suggested does not work. Can I use the cam position sensor signal or the crank position sensor signal to drive the tach? The tach manufacturer was no help and the Ford folks say that the signals into the dash are multiplexed and you need a microprpcessor to sort the tach signal. They suggested a new dash for thousands of dollars - NOT! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I personally do not know which one it is but I am certain that there is a wire that carries a clear tach signal that can be tapped for the aftermarket unit. I installed a tach on my '01 V-10 E-350. The wire was tagged for the tach. You need somebody that has the wiring diagrams for the '05. You may want to post your question about which wire to tap in the electrical section of FTE.
Are you sure you ahve the correct wire on the COP? There are two, try the other one. Most who have remote start systems that require a tach input get it from the COP wire.

Have tried both wires with no stable response from the tach. The signal is normally multiplexed into the dash and requires a microprocessor to un-multiplex the signal. I need to use an acceptable signal from something like the cam or crank position sensors but don't know if they will work and I don't want to ruin my tach. Thanks for trying to help.
