I'm putting the complete serpentine belt set up from an 89' F250 on my 460 equipped 82' F150. My question is, does anyone know a p.n. for a belt that will run the alternator but not the smog pump. I had an 88' F250 when I was younger and removed all the emissions crap. I hate myself because I didn't write down the belt number that finally worked after the sixteenth trip(exageration) to the parts house. I don't own that truck anymore so I can't go reading the number off of the belt. If anyone knows I would greatly appreciate the info.
What I have done in the past is take a piece of string or small braided rope and wrap it in place of the belt. Then I would measure the rope to see what the measurement was from one end to the other. Or I would take the rope to the autoparts store and they would check the measurement and start pulling belts off the shelf to see which one matches the rope. Hopefully that will help you instead of making millions of trips to the autoparts store.
I have too agree with the above post about the string or Ski rope... I have used that method a million time's....But when you measure make sure your slack adjustment are all the way in to the shortest positions....and then get the belt just a tad bigger so you can take up any slop with your slack adjustments..

Thats what I do a lot of times with outdoor power equipment another thing you can do is use your old long belt and cut that down and most of the time you will be dead on with the size you will need.
