No brights

When trying to turn on my hi-beams the other day on my 94 F150 4x4 5.0, the blue indicator came on, but no brights.
They had worked the day/week before, so am assuming the bulbs are ok. Is the switch located in the signal/wiper/hi-beam stalk, and do you have to replace the entire thing? Am going to check the bulbs, but am pretty sure they're fine.

Yes that is where the switch is located.
Yes if you replace it, it is the entire thing.

Reading a post the other day where a guy said he took his apart and sanded the contacts and re-greased it.
Said it worked great after that.

I have one in my hand and the screws look like five small torx screws.

If you do end up replacing it, it's called the Multi-Function Switch, or MFS. It's a pretty common failure on Fords of this vintage.

wiper/dimmer switch rebuild

Yes, these can often times be "rebuilt". Just be careful when you disassemble the unit. There are several small parts, including a couple of springs and contact plates. Be sure to take note of the placement & orientation of these pieces in order to assure proper reassembly. A digital camera can perhaps be your most important tool on a job like this.

Redimpling of the contact points (using a small punch from behind) can restore adequate pressure to reduce the resistance that leads to overheating and melting of the plastic components of the switch assembly. Liberally apply a good quality dielectric grease to all contacts prior to reassembly.

New MFS's can be purchased at any reputable parts stores; but hey, where's the fun in that?
