Towing home a Legend

Tomorrow morning I will be starting a 1500 mile round trip to go pick up my 1970 AM General M35A2 Deuce and a Half military truck. I think the 6.4 will be able to handle it pretty darn good. Long way to tow 20,000 lbs.

Here's hoping the diesel gods will be kind enough to give me good mileage and no problems.

And yes there will be plenty of pictures of her loaded down.

I don't think you will have any problems and look forward to the pics, you will love the deuce and half, have driven several and they were pretty good if you know how to drive..on the floor and wide open.

As a military vehicle collector (mostly British armor), I use my F450 to haul all of my "toys." I had a gooseneck trailer built with 2 -12k disc brake axles, "G" range tires, solid steel deck, and a power dove-tail ramp installed. I look forward to seeing how you hauled your new toy as well.

She's handling the load pretty well. The hills aren't too bad, I'm just too lazy to downshift. Right now I'm stuck in Fort Worth because I got pissed off from the bad traffic. Drove the Deuce for the first time, friggin awesome!!!!! Love that whistler turbo.

Just keep it safe and take LOTS of pictures.

I got one worse, a cabover 5 ton that uses an upgraded engine from the one in your deuce, the engine sits between driver and passenger . . . it's even a Ford! You think yours whistles, mine SHREAKS and hearing protection is NOT optional.

Made it back down to good ol' South Texas!!! And I have a new respect for the 6.4, this motor is awesome!!!

Here's some mileage numbers:
Fort Worth to San Antonio: 7.2 MPG
San Antonio to Home: 7.8

I think that's damn respectable considering I had over 20,000 lbs. going 65+MPH with a load over 12' high on a 40' trailer.

I'll be putting a lot of pictures up tonight after I get off of work.

Here's the pictures!!!

Loaded up in Tuttle, OK just before heading out.

Trying to find a place to sleep, ended up being a good photo op.

My Favorite Pic.

Extreme parallel parking at a hotel in Fort Worth. I don't know how the hell I got it to fit strait. There was a fire hydrant in front of the truck and a sign behind the trailer.

Picture from outside the bar I work at @3AM

Finally at my front gate.

You know you bought a cool truck when men just walk up to it and stare at it, and women simply have a confused look on their faces and ask "why?"
