Its def. not the tires i went from 35's to a new set of 36's then up to 38's and now i am running the stock 235's and none of it helped. it was there just as viscious. thanks
Hey Jack, I saw your response to my problem and thought I would look at yours. I read your problem, I just got my first Ford 4x4, I have always had Chevys. The first thing I learned about Fords is the fact that the twin I beam must have been fords best idea at the time. You didn't say what front end is under your truck, but I would expect a straight axle under a 350. My 250(1980) has a dana 44 I.F.S. under it. If you have an I.F.S. check your axle pivot bushings. I also have a 1983 F100 2wd, the axle pivot bushings were bad. When I would hit a hard bump at highway speed the front axle pivot bolt would slap back and forth in the housing for the bushing and I would have to stop to make it quit. IF you have an I.F.S. I could see where the same thing could happen. My dana 44 has a slip joint on the axle shaft itself so it would have the movement. If you have a solid axle then I have no idea except what the other people have mentioned. If you have an I.F.S. take a look and see, they are hard to see if they are bad unless it has totally blown out. Another note about my 2wd, the slapping occured so long that the bushing hole was not round anymore from the bolt hitting it, I had to get a new axle. Check it soon if you have an I.F.S.
Hey Jack..ok so you have a solid with leafs.....well....do you have a lot of play in your steering? A thought occured to me. A guy brought in a '72 Chevy blazer into the shop and wanted to get it running right and all that jazz....well to make a long intro short, the guy had more money than sence. This thing was a piece. It belonged on the rock trails rather than the road...if it could leak it did...but that is beside the point....when i got it up and running, i noticed that the steering was shot...BAD....im talking over 1/2 a turn of play....I like big trucks and feel comfortable driving them but this thing scared the crap out of me! It was all over the dang road! Come to find out that the front spring brackets were comming loose and the gearbox was cracking the frame (common prob for chev's). I know that your truck probly isnt half as bad but its good to check...specally with...what did you say...1980 truck? Its gittin up there...but its mostly preventive maintance. Just one more thing to rule out. I dont think that might cause a wobble but i think it would aid and help the problem......anyway im out.....
no no, my babys only an 89, she aint too bad yet. the play in the wheel is minimal and i know its not crackin the frame cause i just replaced the gear box a week or so ago and i checked for that. but i havent checked the spring mounts. thanks for the info
Hey guys, the tracking bar bushings fixed my problem. $14.99 at Oriley's and now I can drive as fast as my worn out old 360 will carry me. Thanks for the help and I hope this works for you too.
HAHA....pay dirt! That is great to hear. Now if i get a truck in the shop with that problem, i have an answer! Now Jack, go get some bushings and keep your problems to your self for a while! My fingres are gitting tired! hahahaha......
Haha, i will give it a try, let ya know how it goes. believe me i will try and it, and then if it works i will keep silent for a while, but if it doesnt than back to the old typin we go. thanks again
Maybe a bad shock????
Even when new they aren't all good ones...
Just a thought.
Good luck

Hey Death,
Nathan is right. I've worked for Ford for 9 years and I own my own off road shop. I've seen that death wobble more than once. That wobble happens to a lot of Fords, even the new ones. Check that joint.

had the same problem with my dually mine has i-beams ifound the problem was the pivot bushings.i took the ibeam bolt out of each side and inserteda block of wood between the end of the beam and chassis togain clearance to remove bushing from beam next i removed the bushing with an air chisel then i froze the new ones overnight the next day i pressed them in with a c-clamp(improvised to work) and that solved my problem and cost me 12.00 in parts
>what joint are you talking about? thanks

Think he means this one...."Check for a frozen axle joint. I know it sounds strange, but if it doesnt flex, the spindle will "orbit" even with the front unlocked. Let us know what you find."
I still dont know how this could cause a wobble. Dosnt make much since how it would with the hubs unlocked and all. Who knows...may happen to me some day and I will see.....
