Oil Pressure Decreasing
Hey guys,
I have been driving my 78 F-250 for about 1 month now. I have had to fix some minor problems , but all in all has been running good. Although, I had some oil pool up in the distributor area that I didn't know where it was coming from. I replaced the o-ring that goes around the sealing of the distributor to the block. I drove her through the bottoms and still had the problem. I noticed that the dipstick was out partially, so I thought maybe the engine was pressured up I then put on a new pcv. Now then the new problem. When I start up the engine on the stock oil pressure guage I am getting about 70lbs. Then when I take her out through the country for about 40 min and come home I am carrying about 0-5 lbs when parked. Should I replace the oil pump or just go up in oil viscosity. I am running 10w-30 right now. Any answers would be great. If anyone can locate me a 400 in Illinois I would love to know about it. I think my engine might be going bad.

Install a mechanical gauge to be sure, but low oil pressure when hot is a pretty common problem for high-mileage 400s. They'll run for a while like that as long as they're not knocking, but don't plan any cross-country trips anytime soon.
