since you keep spouting off about this axle thing, i went and talked to the fellow i bought this 79 bronco from last summer. it was nothing more than a mud truck, no floor board, rusted out, rear quarters were sheet metal, the only thing intact on the bronco was the hood, front fenders and doors. i was about the 6th or 7th owner of the truck. it had a 440 dodge motor in it. thats right a dodge drive train. i knew the motor and tranny and x-fer case had been swapped out, what i didn't know, was the front axle had also been swapped. from a power wagon. a standard cut d44. all the gizmos that it takes to mount a front axle on a ford had been welded on.

i sold cars and trucks on a ford lot for 10 years, and the only factory option you could get was a limited slip. what your describing is a locker, not a l/s.
actually i just inquired further on someone elses axle query, still think you are full of it. so are you now changing the story to 'i just got the R&P from the mud truck' cause i really doubt the dodge shafts would fit the early bronco housing, on th knuckles i bet a quick search would tell me your full of it there as well. have NEVER heard of any bronco person recommending dodge knuckles as a viable swap option, heard Scouts and chevs and full size ford knuckles to gain disc brakes but dodge is a new one.
You had better brush up on your differential terminology. what i described is every limited slip, the key difference CLUTCHES, lockers dont got CLUTCHES, exception to the rule GMs 'cuckoo clock' which attempts to be a LS and Locker in one unit.
i could care less how many wrecks you sold or for how long. doesnt add a damn thing of use. seems you couldnt tell a locker from an ...
starting to get a real feel for what you are made of, leave it alone and i wont bring it up again.
hey mj, why are u so uptight about his vehicle, maybe hes lieing, maybe hes not, why do u care so much? this is just a message board, we should have "nice" conversation

on a quiet night your can hear a chevy (lol, you can watch a dodge) rusting away
Some people just don't rate high in the "plays nice with others" category. That or, he dosen't really have a 4x4 but drives a LeCar so vents his angst on others.

so because you've never heard of it, it won't work???? older dodge and ford d44's are the same. i used the carrier, r&p, the short shafts, from the steering u-joint out, spindles and knuckles. everything bolted right up. now do you honestly think that i don't know the diff between a high and low pinion??? theres just no way to stuff a high pinion in a low pinion axle. or vise versa. so do your quick search and let us know what you find.
Hey Pro! I like your garage! Mine includes an 82 F-250 with 16" lift,44's,466,built C-6, etc. (no, not legal.the locals just LOVE writing me tickets in it.)A 79 bronco (the trail truck) with the same drivetrain( only 8" lift and 40s' though) as the 82.Forgot to mention they both have 79 F-250 Dana-60 straights up front. And, yes, I'll scan in some photos if any one wants to see the susp work. Kawa ltd 1000, YZ-490(old but still rips) and a 69 cougar HT 351w 4 spd and a 69 cougar xr-7 rag in desperate need of resto. Oh, yeah, the wifes' jeep. Don't mention it much, though. It's not a Ford but still a very capable rig for a new vehicle.
Besides, what's wrong with disagreement? All it shows is that we all have strongly held belifs and are willing to hash it out until everyone can come up with a solution. We all learn from this, hell, it's even fun!
Back at you with the cool garage 460...I just love Cougars. I had a 67 & a 68 for some time but I was running out of room. I also agree with your comment about the heated debates. I'm afraid what may have happened to this thread was that a moderator cut it down because it was judged "non-productive". I really hope this isn't the case but I've seen mods in other forums get a bit facist. What we need is a flames forum where if a thread gets judged too heated it can be moved to and we can finish hashing it out. Flames forums are typically non-moderated and no-holds-barred. Just a thought.

narrow it down to a year NOW before i go prove it wrong and you change that on me as well.
hey pro, i bought that 72 highboy yesterday and i found a step-side box for it with no rust. i'll cut 2-3 inches out of the frame to get the step side to fit and line up, and re-weld it. i'm going to pick it up tomorrow, i looked at the truck 3 months ago, so i don't remember what axles are under it, but i know it has a granny 4 speed and a divorced x-fer, don't know if i'm gonna like those or not. i'm partial to a c-6 in the mud.
mj, i don't care. i know what i used and whats in my jeep. and heres something else you can research, if i go to a parts store for u-joints for my 84 bronco, the ones that they pull up are too small, so i tell em u-joints for a 89 jeep wrangler. guess what? they fit! but the ones their computer pulls up for the bronco doesn't. so just because you read or hear something, dont believe it, until you actually try it, and especially don't ever tell someone that something can't be done.
and you see, there are other people here who own more than one truck.
I myself would think long and hard before I started chopping into my frame, I guess I'm not that adventurous. But it will be too damn cool to have a stepside on your hi-boy! I always liked stepsides, and theres nothing better than having a custom like that. Congrats on your buy...I bet you'll get to like that 4 speed in the mud, I'll never use another auto.
