Glad you got it off. Heres a trick I use at work.Take a shop rag or cloth and tear it into a strip about 3'' wide. Thread it behind the handle and slowly make sawing motions with rag all around handle. The rag will catch end of clip and pop it off. Works great just keep an eye on clip when it pops out.

Reg,
I'll try that on the other door... just for fun. Sounds like it should work.

WINDOWS.....
Does the glass come out with the regulator? How is it attached to the regulator?

Let the fun begin!!!!! The glass doesn't come out with the regulator. The arm from the regulator slides in a channel that is glued to the bottom edge of the glass.

NOW, if you think you'll remember how all of this stuff came out of the door when it's time to put it back together, FORGET IT!!

GET A SHOP MANUAL!

This is the only board where I regularly see "Get the shop manual."

Joe - great pictures above. When I learn the 'proper way' to get the windows in these doors, I'd like to do a writeup with pictures like yours. These are the type of tech tips that should be 'stickied' at the top of the page.

ssj7kids - It is an exercise in patience trying to get the glass into the door, window channels, snapped into the regulator and get the regulator screwed to the door. That is for sure.

If I knew the trick I'd definitely help you out. Sometimes I can get it in on the first or second try, other times it takes more patience than I have and I need to walk away from it for a while. It definitely helps to have a second set of hands.

So far I have left everything loose and juggled all of the crap up in there and then had someone hold the glass, while I try and get some screws and bolts in. I wish I had a better explanation. Hopefully someone with more real help will jump in and help with a good way to do it. It's really boils down to juggling 3 different things at once.

You guys making mountains out of mole hills again? The glass is glued to the channel. In order to remove it, (it's not hard at all) you need to loosen up the division bar (the bar that seperates the vent window from the door window). Two screws in the top, and a couple bolts in the bottom. Unscrew the three or four screws holding the regulator to the door. With the window all the way up, you can move the glass up and down until you see the spot where you can slide the rollers out of the glass channel. There, the regulator is now out of the door. Now, since you already loosend the division bar (no, you do not have to take it all the way out), you can remove the glass from the door. With it removed from everything, it will easily slide out the top of the door. This is how they did it back then, and this is still the best and fastest way to remove today. I'm putting more pictures in my gallery to show the screws in the top of the door for the division bar, and the two bolts that hold it in the bottom.

Whoa, wait. The glass will come out of the top of the door? With or without the channel stuck to it? If I could slide the glass and the channel in from the top things will go much more quickly.

That's how I've always gotten them out. Oh wait, you need to remove the felt strips too. That is how they come out though, or you can strip the door to get them out the door access panel. I guess, they could go either way, but I have always just pulled them out the top, and that is also how I've seen alot of the books show it too.

Out the top would be so much easier. I have been doing it through the access panel and it can be a frustrating job.
I am going to have a look tonight and see what it takes to get those felt strips out and back in. That part of the truck was complete when I bought it, so I haven't done it yet.

I really appreciate your help Joe. I am looking forward to getting back at it.

Thank you,
Sterling.
