Hey guys I need a tool box for my truck. I am not for sure what to get so I am asking you what you got for yours an likes an dislikes about them. These chrome ones look nice. But there are a bunch off them out there. Some open from the side an some open from the back. Some mount to the side off the truck. So tell me what you got likes an dislikes about them. Thanks for the help in advance. BTW I have a 2003 reg cab superduty diesl with the 7.3. Thanks again for your time.
I got mine from tractor supply. it opens on each side and it is really nice, it has a reinforced lid so i can stand on it and put things on top of it. If you have a Tractor Supply near you i would go check them out because they usually have a whole bunch in stock. Also beware of cheap ones, they usually flimsy and cheaply built.

I'll get a picture of mine if you want to see it
i got got mine at Tractor Supply too. just a note about their stuff just because it is label as TSC but it is made by Dee Zee, Delta, Weathergaurd, etc. you get the same tool box for a cheaper price.
here is mine - nothing fancy but it serves its purpose.
Thanks Matt an everyone for your great pics. Man you guys have awesome trucks. Matt great looking truck. Love those wips an the toolbox. Really sets the truck off. Thanks rebel for those pics. I got to check craiglist out you never know what kind off bargain you will get there. Sonneborn good deal.
I bought mine at TSC too. It was $339. I got the ''low profile, super deep'' one. I figured that now that I have my F350 Flatbed, I could give up some bed space in comfy truck. This one is made by Delta. Seems to be Delta's second quality line, but it works for me. The store did have to order it for me. This one is not regularly stocked by the stores.
on my '92, I had the Weatherguard, it was expensive, but worth it in my opinion. It had a single door and was the size of a coffin, I could put everything in there. It lasted many years and looked great.
The biggest problems that I found with other type (cheaper) boxes is after a few months, the locks break then the hinges rust out. So take your time and make sure that it has good hardware and good locks.
I have had good luck with Dee-Zee toolboxes. They are built well and take quite a lot of abuse.
My truck currently has a black Dee-Zee toolbox - a Tractor Supply item. It is stuffed with tools, tow hitches, ratchet binders, lots of 3/8" chain and some other stuff that I forgot was there. After 2 years it still looks new.
For any toolbox, I would recommend installing a layer of soft rubber on the inside of the toolbox. This keeps stuff in place and eliminates much of the noise you might otherwise get.
1) Chrome vs. Black. I have chrome, like the look, but get reflection/glare in the rear view mirror sometimes from it.
2) Low profile vs. regular. I went with low profile so that I can see better out the window when backing up to connect to a trailer. Regular block too much of the view in my opinion.
3) Side opening vs. bed opening. I went with side opening because my bed is always full of stuff and I didnt' want to have to climb in and over the crap to get to my tools.
4) Reg. depth vs. extra deep. Depends on what you carry in your bed. Reg. depth will let you slide stuff under the box a lot easier than deeper ones. But deeper ones hold more stuff....
5) Cross over vs. Saddle bags. I went with cross over. (i.e. like all the pictures in this thread). I think it holds a lot more for the price. Saddle bags I (run along the length of the bed) cost more, hold less and screw your access to the bed from the side. If I didn't need my bed, I might consider them, but really, I need to throw crap in the bed.
I bought a Dee-zee from Costco and am pretty happy with it. The only thing I don't like is the glare off the chrome when the sun is behind me. Otherwise, good sturdy box; I don't know how I lived without it (well I know... I had my rear seats folded down and tons of tools in the back of the cab....)
I just picked up a chrome diamond plate Tractor Supply box today. Found it on Craiglist for $60. It's the same style as Mstiles19. I almost didn't buy it because it doesn't come out to the edge of the bed, but it doesn't look like it does for anyone else in these pictures. I'm sure I could do more searching, but I figured I'd ask you guys in this thread. Any ideas on how to bolt it down? It's gonna sit in my bedroom until I can figure it out.
I have a delta and it does what i need, but the bottom welds have started to let go after a couple of years.
weathergaurd is very good. they are worth the extra, smooth locks don't dull like others. I have friends who have bought used weathergaurds and they look and work just like new.
