In a drunken stupor, i accidently hooked up my jumper cables the wrong way while trying to jump start my truck. Fortunately, i was able to get the truck started and it seems to be running fine for now....except the radio no longer works. It doesn't turn on at all. Anyone know exactly what I should be looking for and what I'll probably need to do to fix the problem? Thanks
Thanks for the welcome. The fuse was the first thing I checked for, but I only checked the one in the fuse box. But you say there should be one on the back of the radio as well? I will try that next, thanks again.
If it's the factory radio, it will not have a fuse behind it. I would check all the fuses, and if they all look good, I believe the radio is fried. Make sure to check all the fuses, since you may have a seperate amplfier somewhere else.
the quikest way I have found to check fuses. Is too use a multimeter and check for continuity between the two ends of the fuse. If you use the small metal parts on the back of the fuse you dont have to pull them out. I normaly just check all fuses at this time. You never know which ones might be tied to the radio.
Not trying to scare off newcomers, but your post begs the question:
1. Why were you trying to get your truck started while you were drunk? I certainly hope you didn't drive it after you started it.
2. Beside from the obvious issues with driving, working with jumper cables and high capacity batteries while intoxicated is a good way to get killed.
Anyway, welcome to the site, and I agree with everyone else - check the fuse, and if it's no dice, then I'd say you're lucky that you only fried the radio and not something else like the rectifier in the alternator.

Had a couple of vehicles turned off with the lights on a game of corn-hole. no driving involved.
If the radio is fried then yes just buy a new one. It should work. Anouther thing that I didnt think about earlier is to check and see if you are getting power to the radio. If you have power at the connection. Then I would deffently say get a new radio should do the trick.
