I got my new 99 F350 7.3 PSD and it has a Bullydog 5" catback. It's pretty loud(I expected that from the built engine, but wife hates it!!!).
I really don't think my truck is built enough to warrent the 5" system.
Here's some stats;
General:1999 Ford F-350 SuperDutyExtended Cab8-foot Bed
DriveTrain:
7.3L Powerstroke Diesel (135k miles)
Garrett GTP38R BallBearing Turbo (500 miles)
AFE Stage 2 Cold Air Intake (250 miles)
Bullydog 5" exhaust
Phoenix Hardparts 4r100 Trans (rebuilt, 5k miles)
ATS 5-Star Torque Converter (never verified myself, though)
ATS Deep transmission pan
Auxiliary transmission cooler
SCTCortex Tuning (TowSafe, currently)
Is there a system that is still 4" and much quieter while still keeping EGTs down and allowing my Garret GTP38R to spool quickly?
Just about any system that includes a muffler should be much quieter, and so long as it is a performance oriented muffler, the turbo should spool just fine. I would agree, most consumer diesel engines just can't meet the flow capabilities of 4" pipe, so 5" is probably overkill, and also makes it louder.
