460 getting tired?
I have a 1986 f-250 ex-cab 4x4 with a 460 & 4spd. 156K miles, mostly highway.
This truck was used for towing 10K lbs through the race season. Lots of power, no problem towing.
I don't quite know how to explain the noise it's making. No ticking, knocking, or squealing. The engine just sounds 'tired'. Like wheasing, but can only be heard while it's under 1K rpm. I don't know where to start diagnosing.
It has a newer Holley 4bbl and exhaust, no smog carp or emissions to worry about. There's some popping when driving in cold weather, think the timing is off. But I'm more concerned about the noise ..... imagine the truck 'breathing' real hard under 1,000rpm. I just don't know how to describe it.
