Unhappy Power Issues. None At All.

For whatever reason, my truck (1987 F150 4.9L ) has absolutely no power to anything. I replaced the starter and solenoid because I was told they were bad. And among further review, I found that the negative wire for the starter went to absolutely nothing. It was just dangling. I was lost at this. For whatever reason someone cut the negative cable end off, I dont know if this had anything to do with it. So I put a new cable end on it and all. Before I brought it home I put in a battery just to see that all the lights and what not worked, and before changing the starter and the solenoid everything was fine. Now I have no power to anything at all. Its a brand new battery, we put it in my dads truck to test it and it worked just fine. Could the negative cable on the starter have anything to do with this? And also the chassis ground for the negative battery terminal is very rusted, could this be a possible cause? I'm just completely lost here . If anybody has any idea what could possibly be the issue, I would be much obliged. Thank you.

Are you certain you have the connections on the proper terminals on your solenoid? It should be the same as my '88. The other end of positive battery cable as well two other cables should bolt to the terminal on your solenoid that is farthest from the battery. The only cable that goes on the solenoid terminal that is closest to the battery is rhe one that goes down to the starter. If that all checks out okay, make sure all cables and connections are clean and tight.
