I have a 99 Expedition. The radiator has a small leak on the side. It has the heavy duty radiator for the towing package. The core on mine measures 2 1/4" thick. The ones at the part stores call for a 1 3/8" core. I have found one that lists a 2" core. I am not even sure if that is the correct one because mine is 2 1/4". The only other thing I have found is that the 98 Expedition with the 5.4 has the 2 1/4" core. My vehicle was built 04/99. According to the parts description between the two the hose inlets and outlets are larger on the 98. Is it possible that the radiator for the 98 would fit, or is the 1/4" smaller radiator the correct one? The dealership can get the correct one for almost double the price of the ones from the parts stores. Any idea if the 98 could be the correct one or if the 2" would be correct? I do not understand how a radiator could be such a hard thing to match with a vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and if you've never changed one of these radiators, you might want to start a search regarding how to disconnect the "quick release" lower hose from the radiator. Be prepared to get aggravated.
