Fast - rebuilding a very low mileage PnP find to replace my worn out 360.
bore .030 over, new 9.5:1 CR flat top pistons
balance rotating assembly and new bearings
rebuild heads with hardened seats and a mild porting & polishing.
4bbl and headers.
Nothing to special, but it'll be strong and get reasonable gas mileage and last till my 3 yo is ready to drive. That's if we'll be allowed to drive gas powered vehicles in 13 years
Neverenough - I'll have in the neighborhood of 340 hp and 350 ft-lbs torque. I think that's more than I need. If I hadn't started down this path about a year ago, I'd go with a 4.9l with an AOD and some mild improvements. Better mileage and approp. amount of HP. I don't do any towing and very little hauling. A V8 is over kill for me.
But I'll just have to live with the 390 I guess
I get a tankful avg of 12mpg with my 300. It would be better if I had either an overdrive, higher rear gears, or higher compression, or all of the above. I'd guess I'm at around 200hp & 300 for tq. Good enuf for a daily driver.

Sounds like everybody is busy. I've been swamped at work. There is some good news: Gas is dropping$$. Also, I am watching the stock market. I am tempted to take some money out of savings and buy 500 shares of FORD stock. At $2.30 a share, it's a steal. Hope to see some of you at Vintage Ford's show on the 24th. Jag
