Engine Tuner

I have a 2005 F-150 with the 5.4L V8 and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for an engine tuner. I'm not trying to get crazy with the motor or anything, just get a little bit more power and recalibrate for the bigger tires. Any reccomendations?

Welcome to FTE Ryan. Tuners are one of the most common upgrades to these trucks. In the 2004+ trucks... I have run two:

MY04: Superchips 1714(?)
MY06: Edge

I found the Edge to be a nicer product, for a few reasons. First.... it doubles as a 'heads up' display on the dash board if you want (or you can tune the truck and get rid of the unit). It gave a good power bump, provided real time information on up to 4 parameters on screen (you can choose 1-4 to be shown.... out of like 30 choices). It was also super easy to tune and uninstall (like for a dealer run). I am sure if you peruse a few pages of this forum, you will find a few tuner threads.

Good luck with the search!

I run a Superchips 1715 on my van. You plug it in and set the tune then unplug it and put it away. I bought it in '03. Now I'm looking to buy the edge for the new truck. As Rich wrote you can do the tuning then use it as a digital gauge displaying any 4 of a multitude of selections. Edge Products: Product

I also run the edge evolution. Very nice and I noticed a significant difference from stock. I like the 4 available gauges and the 0-60 and 1/4 mile options.

custom tuning is the way to go, and if you want to edge setup you can get a gryphen which is an edge with a custom tune

Here is another vote for the edge mostly for the same reasons already posted. I have had it for a good while now and have not had a problem with it. Also welcome to FTE.

I also have the Edge Tuner on my '05 Lariat SCrew. I really like it and the gauge display is a nice bonus!

I have a DiaboSport from Predator. I paid $325 shipped. I got it when J.C. Whitney gave me 20% off my order. It improved my performance. No gages to monitor your truck though. Kinda a plain jane but I am pleased with what it does.

Difference in Tuners?

I've noticed a lot of Tuners out there for around $350 and the one it seems like everyone reccomends (Edge) is more around $450. What am I losing in a less expensive tuner? From what I can tell, it's mostly just the readouts you get from the Edge while driving. I'm not really interested in 0-60 times etc., just want my big 4x4 to perform a little better off-road.
