It is me again!
My father finally got the truck running. Although I have not heard or seen it run, he said it seems to be running fine. The truck sat awhile and it does need an oil change. He said after it ran for a bit he noticed a drop in oil pressure. At first it was in the middle of the idiot gauge then it dropped down. The question I have is what should the oil pressure be and what could cause low oil pressure? A worn engine? By the way the truck is a 1983 4x2 6.9 diesel. Thanks for your help.

I don't know how the factory gauge works (on-off or actual pressure) but mine NEVER gets to half-way on the gauge most of the time it runs in the low-end of the normal range.

The gauge in my 93 is always pointing straight down around the R or M of Normal. But the gauge in my dads 88 doesnt even make it to the N. I think my dads truck has such low oil pressure because he bought it used from a local ford dealership that went out of business and the truck had been sitting for who knows how long....now he has driven it for a bit over a year and he still hasnt done a oil change since he bought it. I always tell him he should do it but he never does....one of these days ill end up doing it for him if he doesnt kill the motor first.
