Welcome to FTE. I'm not sure of the answer, but it could be one in each tank. As this is the forum for the 2009 F-150, you'll get better answers in the 87-96 forum:
You have three pumps as LxMan1 said and I think a low cost code reader with LED number readout is best and it is very easy to read.
I like the INNOVA #3145 code reader, do not get the LED Light/Buzzer only type reader.
You can also read the codes with a test light/meter or watch the CEL light by counting the flashes/meter swings.
Here is a site that tells you how to read them and then you can post them back here and find out what they mean. The charts at the sites and in the manuals that come with the reader are not year specific and do not always separate the different test modes (KOEO/CM/KOER).
About the only thing you can look at with a scope is the PIP pulse train and the SPOUT output. Unless you have a very deep ignition problem you would not need this.
I have four bench type scopes and I have yet to use one on a TFI/EEC-IV/OBDI type truck yet.
In the old days I did use my Ignition scope and a spark plug scope on the older point style ignition but they have no application on today’s trucks.
