hey guys just signed up. I use to troll on here but never posted anything. Let me start out by saying my name is Kyle im 20yr old from Arkansas. I have a 1949 Ford F1 that im rebuilding as a hot rod. This truck is a learning tool for me, just like everything else i do is. I am looking to learn everything i can about this truck to help me out in my building of this truck. I have come to find out that parts for this truck are few and far between to find.
The plans for the truck include as follows, So far i have the body off the frame and im looking to sell the frame and buy an S10 rolling frame. Like i said this is a hot rod, did my homework and found that it will work with a little cutting, or building of body mounts. I am doing the S10 mainly because I have a 5.0L 302 engine sitting in my garage that im rebuilding to try and get around 400RWHP so im going to need a strong frame that can handle the twisting. Also the other reason im using this frame is because of, yep you guessed it the IFS. I have found a few ppl that are hooking me up with a 2000 s10 frame that is 118" wheelbase.
As for the body of the truck its going to stay relatively clean. I have cut off the drip rails and im shaving the door handles. The body of the truck is for the most part in good shape. The only real holes i have found are at the bottom of the doors and the area at the bottom of the firewall, there is a hole just a slight bit larger then a quarter, and the only other part that needs attention is the front fender has a huge rust spot where the orginal owner had cake bondoed the area. otherwise there is its fair share of dents. The wife of the original owner had got drunk and gone outside and took a baseball bat to the rear fenders and the windows.
Heres a few pics of the work that i have done so far.
heres the engine.
thanks for looking
Your ideas are welcome so let me know what you all think.
kyle, about TIME you stopped trolling and made the right move!! just busting your hump. welcome to the club. looks like your on the right path with project, and asking for ideas. lots of great people and knowledge on this forum, even if you are a darksider! lots of info on basically the same conversion in back threads, so don't be afraid to scroll through back threads.
welcome to the site! looking good, stock frame is plenty strong enough but you can`t go wrong with the s10 front suspension, i was going to do that to mine and from what i seen other people do i did not like that the frame took away most of the bed`s depth, good luck can,t wait to see it all done!
thanks guys if i might ask alot of stupid questions but just be patient with me, im coming from the dark side of sport compacts and tuners so this is a whole new world with me.
There are no stupid questions!!!! This is a friendly board and the guys here are great, you will not be flamed for asking a question that has been asked a million times before (in fact we like those ones better because we stand a better chance of answering them correctly)
Try to keep a good sense of humor, you will probably get some naysayers about the frame swap as there are those that have some definate opinions about that sort of thing.
It looks like a great projects and great work so far.
Welcome to the club. I joined back in early summer.Great place to learn and to get info. There is a vast amount of knowledge here at your disposal. The work you have done to your cab looks good. Can't wait to see the rest.
welcome i am in middle of the same swap with my 52 F1 i got the cab sitting on the frame right now and working on the body work and figuring out a way to moubt the front end to the frame and as another member said you will end up loosing about 6 to 9 inces of the bed floor but i think it will still look great good luck with it and keep us posted
Another welcome Kyle, nice work so far. I wouldn't worry about the space you will loose with the frame swap, the box for most parts just become a trunk anyways, there are only a few that actually really use them as trucks after spending so much time and money on them. Keep us posted with your progress.

And we don't remember after two weeks passes anyway...... Wow ! A Ranger seat really fits in a 49 ?

Painted the valve covers Ford Blue and in the morning after its dried im going to mask off the lettering that read "power by ford" in spray those in white. im going to try this weekend to finish getting the engine striped and sent off in the next few weeks when i get some more bank roll coming in.
