Question Excessive Steering play

Hi Guys! I have a real hard time keeping my 4wd Excursion in a straight line going down a straight road, I am constantly correcting. I have correct tire pressures, I have no worn ball joints or linkages etc. The Steering box has some play & my question is.. can I & if so, how do I adjust the steering box to correct this play??

Any input would be great. Thanks

There is a nut and allen set screw. Loosen the nut, and tighten the screw about 1/8 turn at a time, then tighten the nut. Be careful though, if you tighten it too much, the steering will bind. Check steering from left to right to make sure it doesn't bind. Best choice would be to replace the box. Mine is really bad and if you preload the screw too much, the box gets really hot...

Over time my truck steering wheel seemed to have a lot of 'play' in it. I had the front lined up.... no change. Rotated the tires and put in 50 psi... no change.... Adjusted the steering box 1/2 turn... no change...

I then looked on the tires for the correct psi... it said 80psi.... I was 30pounds low.... pumped it and now runs straight as a string.

I know that you said that the pressure is correct. I thought mine was too, until I looked on the tire.... I would have never thought that my tires needed 80psi.
