2001 Sable question

I know this is a Truck forum, but I need help with my Sable.

Found coolant leaking from the 2001 Sable. After much looking and troubleshooting, I found the hose connector cracked and is now completely broke at the upper radiator/bypass hose connection. According to the service dvd I have, it looks to be a time consuming change. It gives a basic p/n as 8548. Has anyone changed one? Is it a pain to do? Do I need to completely drain the antifreeze?

One other question, The manual says to use Motorcraft antifreeze VC-$-A. Is that the same as the green Prestone stuff. I have a couple bottles of their 50/50 mix.

As long as I need to change this I might as well change the low coolant sensor also. that light has been on for about a year now.

Thanks,

i cant picture the hose offhand, if you show me a pic i can tell you how big of a deal it is.

regarding the low coolant sensor, it'd be worth your while to remove it, clean it and see if it works, if there isnt enough water in your coolant it wont conduct electricity well enough for the coolant sensor to see theres coolant touching it.

Thanks for the reply. I changed out the bypass hose assembly Saturday. Wasn't to hard of a deal. Had to purchase everything from Ford though.

The guy at the parts counter said the low coolant sensor is actually part of the overflow (degass) bottle and is sold as an assembly. $112.00. I'll put up with the light for a while longer.

Which V6 engine does this car have? 12 valve or DOHC?

Let me know, I'll look up the coolant recovery reservoir and give you the Ford MSRP (Manufactures Suggested Retail Price), FTE member discount price, and the part number.

FTE has 4 Ford dealer parts department sponsors that give discounts to members off the actual MSRP.

If that reservoir is really $112.00 (I have my doubts), the cost to you will be 20-25% less.

You can also do this on your own...check out: FTEpartsguy.com. EDIT: The reservoir isn't listed in the online catalog, but I can find it, no sweat.

Engine is the 3.0 liter 24valve. Guy at the parts counter recommended getting one out of salvage car. The bypass assembly was 200.00, but that included the hoses and a new thermosat. p/n for that is 1F1Z-8A521-BB. Since the water pump on that engine is by itself on the back side the belt got changed also.

Thanks,

Thanks,
This what you paid?

1F1Z8A521BB = MSRP: $146.28 / FTEpartsguy.com price: $105.32

When typing Ford part numbers into websites, it's necessary to remove the hyphens and any spaces. Blue isn't necessary, I just use it to highlight the number.
---------------------------------------------------------
I knew it. Some ^$@#* dealers!......it isn't $112.00.

3F1Z8A080EA .. Reservoir / MSRP: $79.82 / FTEpartsguy.com price: $57.47

3F1Z8A080EA replaced 1F1Z8A080BA

Look above and to the left on this page for FTE partsguy.com's link.
