I am swapping out my dying COM for a C6 and mating it to my 352. The C6 is a '67 model out of a passenger car. I have the truck arm for the shifter linkage. I am trying to figure out which speedometer gear to use. I have a program to calculate the driven gear but the question I have relates to the drive gear. I thought small block transmissions typically had a 7 tooth drive gear and big block transmissions typically had a 6 tooth drive gear. At least, this is what I am used to with Mustangs. Anyway, while the trans was being rebuilt today I counted the teeth and came up with 8? Is that possible, I was expecting 6 or 7, not 8. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The size of the engine has nothing to do with what teeth are on the drive and driven gears.
For example, C8OZ-17285-B is a nylon 8 tooth drive gear (brown in color) and was used on some cars w/289's and 390's. The teeth run this-away: ///
C5OZ-17285-B is a steel 8 tooth drive gear and was used on some cars (including Mustangs) with 289's. The teeth run this-away: \\\
It all depends on the application and the following: Tire Size / Rear Axle Ratio / Transmission Type.
You counted the number of teeth from the '67 passenger car's C6 (output shaft) drive gear, but did you take a close up look at that gear?
You may be in for a surprise, because there is no drive gear on the output shaft that is removable.
On C6's transmissions of this vintage, the drive gear is made as part of the output shaft.

btw: C6's / 360/390's were not installed in F100/350's till 1968.
