I live in Nashville and have to go through emissions. I bought my truck from a guy in Florida in July of 07 and he had already shortened the exhaust where it comes out in front of the rear wheels. It is simply a straight pipe from the headers. It passed last year after they looked at it and talked with someone on the phone for 35 minutes! This time it passed within 5 minutes and and they didn't even look under the truck, they did hook something up to the exhaust which is nothing but a straight pipe from the engine. I really think it's just a scam do get $, I don't think they even know how to check it. Did mine come from the factory with a Cat?
Also an elderly lady friend of my mother-in-law has a small car that the battery won't stay charged. The battery is only 6 months old and the brake lights got stuck on overnight a little while back. You can jump it off but it won't start on it's own. Battery or alternator?

Yep, should've had a cat. We had emission testing here in MI that was a
huge scam. You can pass any emission test if you have enough money

Could be both, but I would determine if there is still an amp draw on the battery....The batt & alt may be toast if they've been drained many many times.
Amp draw Shouldn't be more than .05 Amps

Look for trunk ,,glove compartment ,under hood lights not shutting off ,,most times its the alt being bad (current draw ...) if nothing is left on...
Im in Seattle, Im looking at having the kitty running away at some point. I will have to pass emissions in the future, will this cause me to fail? Anybody in WA know about this situation?

If you are worried about emission testing you should remove the cat and let all the internal stuff 'fall out'.
You can weld a straight pipe inside the cat and re-install. This keeps the cat in place for visual inspections.
w/o it in place you may have some trouble if the tester is knowledgeable about our PSD's...most aren't.
I doubt you will fail w/o the cat, most tail pipe sniffers can't detect diesel emmisions.
They are set up for gassers.
