need trans
I'm looking at buying an 83' f250 that has the a shot trans. It had a 6.9 but has NA 7.3 in it. What year transmissions fit(auto)? What price am i looking at from junkyard? what about a rebuild?

An 83 automatic would be a C 6.
Any of the C 6 diesel transmissions up to 87 or 88 when they were discontinued would work.
The transmission had to be from a diesel engine though, the gasser model has a different bolt pattern.
6.9 or 7.3 makes no difference though.

anyone know what kind of money to rebuild it? I know the E4OD will run well over $1000 to build heavy. I'm not looking to put much money onto the truck. Whats one worth in the junkyard?

I'm far from an auto tranny expert but I would be careful of wrecking yard auto trannys.
Also, I would guess that the torque converter is different for the diesel application so make sure you get/use the right one.
