94 Explorer auto-hub

I'm repair/replacing one of my hubs which will not engage. I picked up a 'rebuilt' outer hub assembly from a local yard and installed it. It too does not want to lock up like the other side will. When looking at my Haynes manual it shows 2 thrust spacers betwenn the bearing nut and the cam assembly. However, these spacers are not on either side of the vehicle.
Are these missing causing my problems? Can they be purchased separately?
