Class III or IV???

Do I need a class IV or will a Class III be all I need for towing? I see a class IV has a 10000lb load capacity but I don't see my truck having that capability (it is a trailer special) but a class III has only a 5000lb load capability. Does anyone have a line on the best price for either of these. I have found one on ebay... eBay Motors: Trailer Hitch 1975 Ford F-150 Class 4 (item 320301794451 end time Oct-19-08 14:31:02 PDT)

I also found this class III which is rated better then other class III I have found.... Curt 13310 - Class 3 Square Hitch /w Color Options - Trailer Hitches at Trailer Hitches

I plan to tow an RV camper something in the neighborhood of 16'to 22' length and a single enclosed or single open auto trailer.

Is there something better for a lower price or will this one do?? I don't have alot of money to spend so I'm trying to get what I really need for the best price.

For a hitch, I would go on the heavier side, provided the cost isn't outrageous. The class IV looks fine.
If you have an equalizer on, and have a tire blow at highway speeds, and or need to do some emergency moves, you will not want your hitch to be wiggling or bending or worst.
Those prices aren't bad!
From the trailers you plan on towing, I think the class 3 would be a tad light.
Safety first!
You can always phone a few RV places and explain your needs-they might have some good insight too.
Hope this helps.

I have been towing with old Fords for over 20 years. I would recommend also the heavier hitch. Better too much than not enough! You still need to find out about the towing capacity of your truck though as on the other thread.

Go with the IV. You always want to have more hitch than you think you need.

Since that Class IV price includes free shipping, it is a pretty good price. Personally, I would not consider a Class III on a full-size truck - maybe for a Ranger or Explorer, but not the big boys...
