Lower MPG'S

I had to have some warranty work done on my 06 SD while we were on the road and now I am getting about 3 mpg less than before the work. They had to replace the egr cooler, oil cooler and some hoses, but why would my mpg drop so much? I have heard some talk of Ford reprogramming the computer, but would they do that without telling me what to expect? Any ideas?

Sure, if they had an update it would be common for them to reflash the prom. Regardless of flashing, the air and engine should be running cooler, so the ECM will need some time to readjust. Plus there is the test factor, most people will drive a little harder after service to see what was effected.

It has been 5 weeks and 2,000 miles since the work was done so I feel I have given it enough time. I read on another forum ( BD-Power)where the same thing has happened to other Ford SD's and they are claiming a loss of 40 to 60 hp due to the reflashing, something about Ford trying to keep the EGT's lower instead a addressing the real problem with the 6.0. With diesel prices like they are this will really hit the pocket book.

Have you asked the dealer that did the work?
