automatic hub difference

Hey 250,

I have a '96 EB, 351L, 3.55 gear, automatic 4-wheel drive and automatic low range selection. My friend has a '95 XLT with, I believe a 5.0L, but also has the automatic 4-wheel drive selection. His front hub has 5 screw caps while mine has 3 - why the difference? Would he have a different front axle under his?

Thanks,

automatic hub difference

I have a 91 F150 with the 5 screws. It blew the left hub and when I went to get a replacement, Ford has upgraded to a new hub design with only 3 screws on the cap. The conversion requires the hub body assembly (which comes with the cam) at $147; the wheel nut at $87; and the 3 screw chrome cap at $54 = $288 total for the autolocking hub. I priced manual hubs and a pair of Warn (for both sides) is $55. I think this requires a conversion kit but probably much less than what I have already paid. Plus tools: the wheel lock nut on the old style is different (4 peg style=$23) than on new style nut (2 3/8" 6 sided socket(3/4")=$26) + torque wrench $9; and a 1/2" to 3/4" converter=$13 for the new wheel nut wrench. That's $359 and I must have installed it wrong because the left side still does not engage.

AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!! I should have converted to manual locking hubs.

Greg
