I go to start my truck this morning turn it to the on position to wait for the glow plugs and fuel pump prime and it just starts making this clicking noise, located the noise and it was the top left relay in the fuse box located inside the cab.( what relay is that? the previous owner lost the fuse box cover)
Odd thing was i didnt get any power at all to anything, no stereo, no windows etc just that clicking noise of the relay.. So i proceded the check all fuses- checked out fine. removed all relays to check for corrosion and they all checked out fine. checked both battiers 12.5 volts also checked connections
I disconected both battiers for 10min hook them back up and try to start it, i get full power and i hear the fuel pump prime and glow plug relay. Go to start it and it starts making the relay click again.
I was thinking the relay? or possibly ingnition switch?
Wondering if any one has had this problem? i need some thoughts
That clicky clicky noise is a dead giveaway that you have a huge power drain. I'm not sure where the noise originates from, but it's PSD language for "check my batteries"
Recheck your cables/connections/terminals and unhook each battery and load test them, I'd bet you have a dead battery. They are wired in paralell so if you didn't unhook them to test them you are getting false readings.
Lisa and Chris hit it right on the head. One bad battery can cause the other to go down, especially under load. A good way to verify this is to take a DMM and test the voltage then when trying to crank you'll see the voltage drop. While your at it check all the cables including the grounds, both ends.
