I have a 2002 F-250 7.3 with the electronic shift 4x4 and both of my 4x4 and 4x4 low lights are on. Yesterday, I hooked up to a trailer in my back yard, I put it in 4x4 due to mud and then took the trailer around to the front of my house, backed it up in the driveway and when I put it in park, I heard a loud noise from my front end, kinda like a chunk! I switched back to 2WD thinking the lights would go out but they did not, I drove it today, thinking that if I got up to a certain speed, the lights would go out, well now the truck shifts gears like a straight shift and I can't get above 20 MPH. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Im not familiar with that transfercase, but have you tryed backing up to relieve any binding in the drivetrain? you might try sticking it in reverse, while trying to switch the electronic t-case actuator switch.....
Sounds as though thr truck is still in 4 low. That is bad if you are driving on the pavement.
Your ESOF system is known for this, and the actuator on the t-case may have gone bad.
I can guarantee with a fair amount of certainty that your problem is either in the actuator, or there is a vacuum problem.
This system does not rely on constant vacuum. This is dependant upon pulsed vacuum. It has to use pulsed vacuum because the truck would disengage 4wd if you shut the truck off. That would be a bummer.
You may also have a problem with your ventilation system. You may find that you have a problem with the defroster. This would indicate a vacuum leak.
You can actuate the transfer case by hand, but requires a couple of hand tols, and some patience.
If your front hubs are still engaged, (hopefully not) you will not want to drive your truck on the pavement if it is still in 4 low. If the hubs are engaged and you are in 4 low, you run the risk of transfer case damage.
truck needs to be in neutral to disengage and engage 4-low.
you need to be at a complete shop.
If you have NO other option's and need to get it to a shop.
Drop the front drive shaft. Dont try drivin fast either....
First off, I appreciate everyone taking their time to help with this situation, it means alot. Secondly, I put the truck into neutral and let it sit for a few seconds and both of my 4x4 lights went out, and the truck is fine now. It kinda had me scared there for a moment but everything is running smoothly. Once again, Thank You all!
Now this is a "newbie" who will do fine here,he appreciates answers,he has a good attitude, and he described his problem in detail.....Welcome aboard,SShular, and please dont be a stranger!
