Broken belt need help

Replace my belt yesterday because the old one was starting to come apart. The new is now in worse then the old one. I have checked my pulleys they all look to be good but the power steering one has play in and out is this ok or not. I have not found a sharp edge on anything either. Not sure if I just got a bad belt or what?

For what its worth I just checked the in and out play on my PS pump pulley and it was no more than an 1/8 of an inch. Have someone goose it a few times while your watching. Make sure the belt is not riding up onto the dge of any pulley. If the inside or outside edge is wearing out that is the usual problem. Make sure all the pulleys are in alignment. Also make sure the mounting bolts on all accessories are tight.

Check the idler pulleys. You may have a bearing going out in one, causing it to run a little off. Also, if you have recently replaced the belt tensioner on your truck, the replacement available today is different than the original. It is a little longer, and you need to read the directions when installing, a difficult thing for a guy to do. You need to remove the washer on the bolt that holds the tensioner. Reason is that with the washer, it puts the bolt real close to the belt, and could make contact with the belt.

Might want to make sure the new belt has the same number of grooves as the pulleys.
I am assuming you have checked to play on the pulleys with the belt removed.

Good luck,
