OK. the sheet metal is all on. FTE member C-700 came up yesterday, and took a couple of parts back with him. I am glad I have been able to use the parts from the fire truck to help others with their trucks. He brought me an original turn signal switch for the Big Jobs (awesome!!!!). He also brought me another 20 gallon Big Job gas tank. I am going to eventually try and install it under the passenger side, and make it look like dual factory tanks hidden under the cab. I got prices tosay for the two air valves I need to re plumb this things air system ($30 for one, and $27 for the other, completely affordable). Should have the air brakes completely replumbed next weekend. Carl also brought me two slightly bent or damaged stock bumpers for Big Jobs. I am going to graft them together and make a double tall stock type bumper. I have the steering column mostly built, except I need a lower column mount now, and will get that from Speedway Motors in the next week or two. After that, I have some momre holes to fill in the frame, and a section of outer frame rail to remove. It should be just about put together within the next two to four weekends.
hey, joe you talked about filling holes in the frame, have you heard of filling holes in the sheet metal by using copper "pipe," so the weld doesn't stick to it when filling holes?
I've heard of people using copper as a backing to keep the weld where you want to. What they mean is that the weld material doesn't stick to the copper, and by having the copper backing, you keep the weld at the hole, instead of wire going every where, and making a big mess.
