Thanks for sharing all your knowledge-I'm up to about page 45 on the IDI forums.
I just bought my first diesel; a 91 extended cab 7.3 automatic for $1500, good body with no rust, starts easily and good power with no smoke-Title said 97000 mi, but I suspect 197000-needs belts and hoses, and the fuel gauge is iffy on the rear tank- BUT, I'm LIKIN' IT!
Couple of questions; transmission seems to shift pretty firm if (empty) at light throttle opening, is this normal?
The truck takes about 10 miles in 60 degree weather before the temp gauge begins to move from cold... is this normal?

welcome to FTE! it takes my 85 6.9L about 3-4 miles before getting to normal running temp. it all depends on how hard you work the motor, and if its plugged in or not ( mine always is )

you want hard shifts, it means its grabbing good and solid, it may have a shift kit in it to amp up the shift pressure. the E4OD may be locking the torque converter and not letting up to shift who knows but if its not broke dont fix it .

and again welcome to FTE i think youll like it here theres alot of good help to be found
