Help with temp control

ive had this problem with my 98 eddie bauer explorer for some time. and would like to buckle down and fix it for my wife. we have little or no control over the temperature in the explorer. it is erratic at best I have looked at past threads and cant seem to come up with a sure fire fix other than sending to the shop for 1000. fix. I found one fella that seemed to have fix but the moderator locked the thread b/c everyone was posting email addresses. apparently this has to do with blend door breaking some way. now i have not actually tried to locate this door so im not even sure where to begin. just wondering if anyone was successful in the fix without removing the entire dash unit. thanks guys

the blend door is an electric operated duct door inside the heater box that mixes hot and cold air to get the right temp. it is behind the glove box--- read this thread... also note, on trucks with the "temp control system" this is not exactly right. the Eddie may have the "optional control system", im not sure. Can you varry the drivers and passenger side seperate? if so, that might be the special control.

I read the blend door fix and checked it out on mine and found my motor to be working fine as well as operating the insert into which the motor drive shaft fits. if the door is broken it must be on the inside of the unit. it seems i hear something moving in there as though it might be operating correctly. now my set up is a digital read with up and down buttons. Im at loss on this thanks for the info. i dont think i can vary driver or passenger heat.

Not sure, but I think there is a way to put your auto climate control into self test mode.

Something about pressing and holding 2 of the climate control buttons & in a few minutes any faults in the system will display as trouble codes on the dash LED.

Might want to check with a dealer . If you are lucky they will tell you how to do this.

If it's not a broken blend door, the self test might give you a clue on this.
