base carb settings
I have an 82 f 150 302 with an auto od in it. Bought it as a beater/ eventual parts truck.. runs crappy and uses alot of gas. When u start it, the fumes make ur eyes water..lol...
anyways, I am wondering what a good base setting is for the carb. Its a 2 barrel motorcraft ( fords make anyways) carb. I was playing with it and discovered the needles were set at 4+ turns out.. wayy to rich.. have em set about 2 1/2 turns out now... but am thinking should be closer to 1 3/4 out....any ideas???????????

Just keep turning them in and out till you get the highest smoothest idle. If you can't seem to get rid of the fumes and it's running rich, you probably need a new power valve in the carb.
I was just reading an article the other day that said the alcohol they are mixing in the fuel now, is whats ruining all the rubber parts in the carbs lately. Some of the carb kits you can buy now have the better rubber in the parts that is not attacked by the alcohol.
