I have an 04 F-350 and bought an older camper about 1700 lbs. Will stake pocket tie downs bend the truck bed? Just going to bring it home with the stake pockets, about 300 miles of highway driving! Will I be safe or not?? I plan to buy Torklift tie downs later.
i have an 81 8.5 foot scamper slide-in probably about the same weight and all i've ever used is the stake pocket brackets. only prob i have ever had is doing70 plus mph into really strong wind, the two front brackets bent from camper trying to lift no damage to truck box though
Thanks for the reply! I have heard that they might bend, but your testimony is enough. But you have them on a 2005 right? Any recomendations on what I should do (for motor and tranny) before the long journey home? Thanks again!!!!
the wind that i was pushing was absolutely stupid. the the box design has been unchanged for quite a few years, so yours will have the same strength as mine. my box had zero damage, the bending in the brackets wasn't enough to reduce strength but since i was at the welders anyway, i had him add a little brace and now i'm good as gold.
