Front End Squeak

My girlfriends 99 Rangers front end squeaks while turning. Any ideas?

check the power steering fluid level. also if you've got grease fittings on the front steering components, maybe they need a grease shot.

Fluid was fine, and there were not any grease fittings that I could find. I'm not too familiar w the new steering. I've always owned Twin I beam trucks. I actually prefer them

upper ball joints are notorious for making noises. look to see if the rubber boots are even still there.

their a PITA to replace (press in, press out). you didn't say how many miles and if it's a 2WD or 4WD.

just replaced all four on my Ranger. the bottom ones had way too much slack in them and the top ones made clunks and squeaks. Ford should be kicked in the butt for putting in the non-greasing ones from the factory.

if you are in no hurry to replace them, I bought some from a place in NY on eBay. they took too long to ship, but the wait was worth the big savings. (75% less than the parts houses here).

I think ball joints with no grease zerks are fine. I'd rather not grease them every oil change, and then just replace them at 100k. The ones with grease zerks wear out just as fast in my opinion.

If you want to just get rid of your squeak, they make a grease fitting adapter that is just a little needle that screws onto the end of a grease gun. poke it in the boot and grease it up.

However by now the ball joints are probably junk, but it will get rid of your noise.

Just had mine replaced. Mine started out with just a squeak when turning then progressed into a squeaking when going over bumps, etc. I ignored it until the shop doing my inspection pointed it out to me. They were in bad shape.
