I hope i have my info on these tranny's correct. I have a 91 f-150 4x4 with the push button o/d and im wondering if my rebuilt aod from a friends 88 bronco which does not have the electronic o/d is a straight swap or will it affect the computer or anything else?
It will affect the computer and the trans are different sizes so mounts, driveshafts, linkages etc need to be changed. (E4OD is 7+ inches longer) The AOD is a weak sister anyway. Fix the E4OD.
How do i confirm my info is correct and know for sure which one i have?
Was there ant aod's with the push button o/d?
Read the transmission code off the door post on each truck or count the number of transmission oil pan bolts, then go to the `87-`96 F-Series page and click on Tech Info. This will tell you exactly what you have.
I still haven't confirmed which one i have yet. My reasoning is because the aod is free and rebuilt. The trans i have now is not down shifting to first when i come to a stop. Only way it does is if i manually pull it down or as i start moving it starts out in second then after a foot or two it drops hard down to first.
Also if i put the shifter in second at a complete stop it will start out in second and lug itself with no down shift.
This is the third trans in this truck in 4 years. It is supposed to have a shift kit and upgraded clutches etc, does have a fairly hard 1-2 shift especially in low range.
