Well we got liberty at 830 this morning so with my day off I decided to head over to Mcdonald's to get some breakfast. After I finished stuffing my self with death in a biscuit, I went out to my truck. Start it up, go to push in the clutch and it fell strait to the floor. I knew it was the slave cylinder because it decided to leaked about 4 thousand miles ago, but it fixed its self some how so I decided to just drive until it died. But sure enough there was a puddle of brake fluid under the bell housing... Now the drive back from MCDs was an interesting experience because every red light decided to be red, and with no ability to disengage the engine stopping was a chore. Luckily for me the clutch cancel switch went out a few years ago and i jumped it with a paper clip. People sure look at your funny when you shut your truck down at a stop light then it starts moving with the starter cranking. So I finally got back to the base, borrowed my buddies LT1 Camaro and headed off to pick and pull to see if i couldn't find a ZF42 laying around. No luck. So I have to stick with the M5, so off to napa to price parts. Guy decides I'm nice so I walk out with a flywheel, clutch kit, slave, rear main, the little line tool thingy, and a few cans of brake kleen for $375. So as soon as traffic dies down a bit so I can navigate the 6 blocks it takes to get across the street to the shop I am left here to study up on the job. My MK2 is going to come help me tomorrow after his kids soccer game, but I have to get the job done tomorrow because I have duty Sunday and they don't like taken apart trucks lying around. Any, hints, tips, tricks or otherwise good advice?
I did my 95 f-150 4x4 ( 6 cyl )in my driveway ... took about 8 hours total--not a bad job, but a pain on your back!! I had no problem with anything except tranny fluid running everywhere --I remember the days in the parking lot at the base trying to fix stuff--security driving by every 30 mins---" hows it goin"--
ex coasty (mk2) discharged in '74 --wish i'd stayed in for 20 ( can you say "retirement")
