Looking for advice...

I have a Job 1 with black soot on the exhaust, just at 20k miles. Overall, I am pretty pleased with the way my truck is running now - mileage is decent (14 city, up to 17 hwy) and regens seem to be infrequent. However, I have been reading the posts on the possible cracked DPF and also the reflash 08-13-2 and 08-13-3. I called my service advisor about the reflash and he said to bring it in for that service.

Since my truck is running good now, I am a little apprehensive about having the reflash done, thinking it may increase the frequency of regens and decrease my mileage. So...

1. If my DPF is cracked (causing black soot at exhaust), will it harm the engine to continue running it without replacing the DPF? What possible problems could it cause?

2. What effect on regen frequency and mileage have others that have a reflash on Job 1 trucks seen?

Thanks for any help!

I had the 08-13-2 flash done on my job1 truck in July and have yet to see a regen. I have almost 31,000 miles on mine now and the pipes have had soot since day 1. I'm getting about the same MPGs that you're getting also. The flash didn't hurt my mileage, still the same. The only real difference I can see in the truck is that it did fix the resume on the cruise control. I havn't had a regen that I have noticed since back in the winter. I really don't think it's regening anymore!
