I replaced the old gas cap with a new one and it still leaks down the side of the truck.Upon examination of the new cap the gasket is already cracked in 3 places, this is on the rear tank.
When I looked at the fuel filler neck of the front tank it seems that the surface of the filler neck( where the gas cap gasket would mate) is flatter than the rear tank. The rear tank fuel filler neck mating surface seem indented somewhat. Weird.
Has anyone had this problem? Is a new fuel filler neck(not sure of the proper name for this part) even available? Thanks
Just did some work on my fuel tank (rear) but didn't have the same problem as you. Mine was leaking under the truck when filling.
Don't have my catalogs with me, but have you tried Blue Oval Truck Parts or LMC Truck? They both have websites and often have diagrams detailing which parts they have available. They had all the parts I needed. You might give it a try.
I had the same problem with gas leaking out of the rear tank when full. Got a new cap from LMC. POS leaked worse than the old one. Found a good cap on a parts truck I picked up.
You can make anything work if you have tools & determination............I put a '94 Saturn fuel tank and made hoses for it, fuel filler cap, for my '67 Jeep Gladiator pickup once.......remember "You can do anything you put your mind to".......best thing my mama ever told me
You may be able to get a piece of universal neoprene gas hose hose to fit. Take a look and see what you need, you can get one from a parts house. May need a little silicone but you can try. You could even fabricate a little metal guard for it if the hose rubs against the frame or something.
