Distributor advance spring part numbers

I recently obtained a couple packages of advance springs with some old junk, and am curious about the application. Most of the old vehicles I've worked on had seemingly stretched advance springs, and could use new ones. Since different vehicles had different advance curves, even with the same engine, I'm not sure about the interchangeability. I have a 1969 351W as well as a 1964 260 in which I'd like to replace the springs.

Part numbers:

Heavy spring: C5AZ-12192-A (MS-467)

Light spring: C5AZ-12192-K (MS-474)

Thanks for any help.

One cannot look up dizzy springs by application. First you have to match the parts catalog number code of the springs with the dizzy ID number, then find out what that dizzy ID number translates to what Ford part number...then you have to find out what that part number's application is.

As you can imagine (or maybe you can't), this is a first class PITA.

1969 351W, here's a coupla examples...

Dizzy ID Number: C9OF-12127-M / 1969 351W 2V A/T or S/T takes both of these springs.

C9OF-12127-Z uses 241.

What I need to know is the number off your dizzy, because there's over 20 different ones listed for 1969 351W's, and I'm not typing every one a them that use one or both of these springs.

The stamped ID number is on the base, just below where the cap rests.

These springs were not used prior to 1965.

Advance springs

Thanks very much for that info, Bill. This engine came from a 1969 Fairlane 2V automatic, but now is hooked up to a standard and soon a stock 4V intake.

I checked the number on the distributor (not easy on an installed distributor on a Windsor) and lo and behold, it's C9OF-12127-M. So these are exactly the correct springs! What are the chances? I was also surprised that the same springs are used with manual and automatic transmissions.

Thanks again for taking the time to look up this info.
