Brake splices

I just got a 68 f-100 and i pulled the bed off to do some work and today i noticed 2 splices in the rear brake lines. They look line compression fittings to
me and one flange splice(factory splice??). I am completely rebuilding the front and rear brakes and the rubber hoses i am just wondering if i should change the hard lines also. I was looking a lmc and they have all the hard lines for around 230.00. Any advice? Here are some pics of the splice.

It's not going to come off, unless it was installed incorrectly in the first place...and since the one in the pics isn't leaking, it's most likely fine. You'll get a lot of people who have either put them on wrong or that have never used one before that will say that compression fittings should never be used on brake lines, that the vehicle won't pass inspection in some states...blah, blah, blah. As long as the compression fitting is tight (and it takes some feel for getting them tight enough without cracking the brass nuts), it's the next best thing to a union for joining ANY kind of steel or copper line.

Just my (experienced) opinion...
Pat

Here’s my take on the topic: If you’re changing everything else, I’d change the lines too; I did. Brake fluid is hydroscopic which will rust the lines from the inside out. In your case, were talking about 40 years! The brake line is cheap; I bought a kit and a good double fairing tool and went about making replacement lines. Added benefit: you never have to think about those ice-maker unions again!

I went ahead and ordered all new hard lines. Its mainly for peace of mind i plan on keeping the truck for along time so its a good investment.
