Just signed up today. I bought a 1996 F-250 2WD with a 5.8L and auto trans on Sun 9/7. It has 94K and seems to be a good runner. This is my first heavy duty pickup and I was planning on using it for firewood/dump runs etc. I have installed new front rotors and ceramic pads and had to replace a starter a couple of days after getting it. Have also had a run of bad luck; last week I returned home from the Commuter Rail and truck was broken into during the day at the parking lot, lost a stereo and an amplifier. Worst part was the scumbags pulled BOTH locks with a dent puller/slide hammer and did alot of damage to the sheet metal. I am very mechanically inclined but this is out of my league. Local trusted body shop is talking $1100. So I am waiting for the title and it will probably go for a "U-Fix It" song on Craigs List, unfortunately. I was planning on a few expenses (tune-up, starter, alternator, tires or whatever) but this expense I didn't need. So I am trying to decide wether to bail out or not. Sorry for the long post and sob story but I wanted to say hi after joining forum.
